What Problems Do Skin Tags Cause?

By and large, there are no problems that skin tags cause. Apart from the cosmetic appearance that is brought about by the tags on the skin, they do not entail any kind of discomfort or pain. However, when they are irritated persistently just like in the groin or by the collar, these small skin growths cause symptoms.

The most common reason as to why skin tags are removed cosmetically these days is the unpleasant appearance that comes along with the development of skin tags. But then again, most of the time, skin tag removal is required by a physician whenever the skin tag becomes red or black. A skin tag ordinarily becomes red whenever it gets very irritated especially if there is bleeding involved. On the other hand, a skin tag becomes black when the skin tissue suffers from necrosis or the dying or twisting of skin tissue.

Pain and discomfort are usually experienced whenever the skin tags are irritated or snagged by jewelry and clothing. Even pets contribute to the irritation of skin tags. Snagging caused by seatbelts may also trigger the affected individual to feel minimal pain or discomfort. Even if there are pain and discomfort involved, it has to be noted that this little growth on the skin do not lead to cancer since this skin condition not malignant.

One popular skin tag treatment these days is cryosurgery. The skin tags first undergo ligation wherein the skin is clamped or tied off by forceps in order to stop bleeding. After which, the tag tissue is treated by a freezing technique that causes the skin tag to be killed and fall off with liquid nitrogen. This technique may require repetitions and discoloration of the skin is also to be experienced.
There is also a technique known as excision. With the use of a scalpel or a scissor, a physician gets rid of the growth by means of cutting it. Since there is a cutting involved, there is a minor bleeding that comes with it even though the skin tag is right away removed.

Skin tags are certainly a very common skin condition, and that is why more and more people are being engaged in home skin tag removal. Nevertheless, there are several options beyond surgical procedures that may be taken into consideration when deeming the need of having the skin tags removed.

Q&A: Should I be embarrassed by a skin tag above my anus?

Lizzie asks…

Should I be embarrassed by a skin tag above my anus?

I’m a 19 year old girl. I just discovered that I have a skin tag above my anus. If you don’t know what a skin tag is, it’s common, benign skin growths that look like a small piece of soft, hanging skin. They are harmless growths, it doesn’t mean I have any disease or anything but I’m really uncomfortable about it. I have intercourse with the person that I’m seeing right now I don’t want him to see it and think that there’s anything wrong with me or something, or think I have an STD or something. I don’t want to tell him about it either. It’s embarrassing. What do I do? I’m so upset right now. Thank you for your time.

admin answers:

Hi Lizzie

If you are embarrassed about the skin tag, you can easily remove it with our skin tag removal kit – maybe your mum could help you? However, I wouldn’t worry about your boyfriend seeing the skin tag – he won’t know its there! A skin tag is completely harmless so unless it is really bothering you or causing problems when you use the toilet, you can just leave it alone.

Skin Tags Cause

Skin tags can be referred to as polyploidy outgrowths of the epidermis and dermal fibrovascular tissue. They usually appear as thin bits of skin that protrude above the healthy skin and have a structure that has a clearly visible stalk and a head-like feature. They are hence very easy to notice, especially adding the fact that they appear darker or redder than the normal skin with a tone of grey. They are growths, yes, but they are not cancerous in any way. In fact, they are completely benign.

What actually happens within the skin to cause skin tags? Constant friction on a part of the skin causes the blood vessels within it to get entangled with collagen and get trapped within thin bits of skin. This causes the skin to protrude on these areas and become skin tags.

There has been a lot of research over the years by scientists trying to determine what the exact cause of skin tags are. So far, none have been determined. The only factors that are known are ones which increase the risk of one developing skin tags.

Top among these factors is obesity. Overweight individuals have a lot of fat within the skin and this causes the skin to form folds which are potential friction spots. The more the friction on these folds, the higher the chances of developing skin tags in these parts of the body.

There have also been many cases of body builders with skin tags. In fact, these cases are growing and researchers have found the most probable reason to this and it is steroid use. Most body builders have a goal of bulking up using any means whatsoever and they end up buying and using the illegal types of steroids because those are the most effective in gaining muscle mass. Constant use of these steroids leads to rapid tissue build up which is a perfect recipe for skin tags development.

Pregnancy is another condition that has been known to increase the chances of one developing skin tags. This is because it brings about tissue expansion as the belly gets bigger hence a chance of blood vessels and collagen getting trapped within thin bits of skin. It may also lead to genital skin tags due to the friction during child birth.

Please note that there are many exceptions to all these cases. Falling into any of the above categories does not necessarily mean that you will develop skin tags.

Paul asks…

Whats a good way to remove a skin tag w/o going to the doc or using liquid nitrogen?

My doc told me to use dental floss and tie it around it and wait 48 hours. All it did was cause me more pain. It was on there for a week and did not do anything. And it was really tight.

admin answers:

Skin Tags On The Nipple

Skin tags are growths on the skin that are as a result of a lot of friction on the skin. This friction causes the veins and collagen on that part of the skin to get entangled within thin bits of skin. This ends up being a growth on the skin that has a head-like feature and a thin stalk. They may appear on any part of the body mostly on the face, genitals, hands and anywhere else with a lot of skin folds and experiences a lot of friction. There have even been cases of skin tags appearing on the nipple.

Skin tags appearing on or around the nipples may sound awkward to someone who has never had them but they exist. In fact, there are many people out there who have for once in their lives developed one or a couple of them but managed to successfully get rid of them.

What causes such skin tags, you ask? As indicated earlier, skin tags are as a result of a lot of friction and this occurs even on the nipples as they rub on the garments and the surrounding skin. They are more frequent in women than in men, possible because of the fact that women have breasts and therefore, a higher chance of friction as they rub against the clothes. Obese men have a lot of similarities with women when it comes to the chest because of the fat accumulation within them.

The nipples are part of the most sensitive parts of the body and therefore, the skin tags on this area should be treated with a lot of caution. The removal process for example, should be carried out with a lot of care to avoid hurting the nipples.

You can reach out and touch your nipples. That means that you can also use the home skin tag removal methods on the skin tags. One of them for example, involves the use of a string that is tightly tied at the base of the skin tag. This kills the cell tissue within the tag and it disintegrates and falls off after a couple of days.

An instant method of removing skin tags on the nipple would be to carry out a simple surgical procedure but you have to be very careful not to accidentally cut your nipple.

There are many other methods that you can use to remove skin tags that appear on the nipples. No matter which one you choose, ensure that it is completely safe and effective.

Laura asks…

admin answers:

Hi Laura

The first thing is do not worry as your doctor has seen them and confirmed they are vaginal skin tags and nothing to worry about. You may be aware of them but your partner won’t even notice them! If you are certain you want to have them removed you have a few options… you can go back to your doctor and ask him to remove them for you. He will either cut them off or might use liquid nitrogen to freeze them off. You could try the free method of tying a piece of thread around them until they dry out and fall off, or give our skin tag removal kit a try.

Good luck.

Getting Rid Of Skin Tags

Skin tags are harmless. Harmless in this sense refers to the fact that they are not cancerous in any way and are painless. Therefore, they do not need to be a source of any concern. Saying that they are harmless, however, does not mean that they should be left unattended. In fact, skin tags can be very unpleasant especially if they appear in the parts of the body that are most visible like the face.

So, how should skin tags be addressed? They should be removed as soon as possible if they bother you. Some people may try out some medicines to make them subside or disappear just like skin rashes but this method never works. There are specific methods that are used to remove skin tags.

One of such methods is a simple surgical procedure that can also be easily carried out at home. It involves the cutting of the skin tag from its base in order to remove it. Some people may br put off this method because it sounds like a surgical operation. In real sense, it is has a very negligable amount of pain. To remove the skin tag, first sterilize the cutting tool you are going to use using a flame or dipping it in hydrogen peroxide or any alcohol solution. You should then numb the area around the skin tag and cut it right at its base. In some cases if bleeding continues you may need a stitch in which case it is not advisable to try this method yourself at home.

If you feel that you would prefer natural methods of getting rid of skin tags, then you can opt for one of the herbal extracts in the market today. The solution is applied with cotton wool and rubbed on a skin tag regularly until it dries out and falls off.

Vitamin E can also be used in this case. It, however, has to be applied along with band aid. The application procedure is just the same as above’.

If you have the time and resources and are willing to see a dermatologist, then you can have your skin tags removed in complex and more effective methods. One of them is cryotherapy that involves the removal of skin tags by freezing them until the cells within them die and they disintegrate.

There are many other methods that you can use to get rid of skin tags. Please note however, that in some cases, there is a chance that the skin tags may grow back.

Q&A: Could This Be Genital Warts?

Gemma asks…

Could This Be Genital Warts?

Hi,

I lost my virginity in November, to a guy I’d really liked for ages. He took advantage of me drunk one night and we didn’t use a condom and I haven’t had sex since. So That’s the back story, before people judge I’m ‘that type of girl’ (you know what some people are like.)

Anyway, about a month ago I started to notice a few bumps in the entrance to my vagina, fast forward to today and there are more small to medium fleshy bumps right at the entrance and a few see through skin tag type things on the inside of my labia (which weren’t there before. The bumps aren’t itchy or filled with anything but are just there.

Id just like to know what people think about this and what the treatment is? I plan on seeing a Dr, but dont want to see my GP and plan on going to the NHS drop in centre tomorrow.

admin answers:

Yep, sounds like genital warts. The question you must be asking yourself is the guy you had sex with gave you the warts. As I understand it, these warts can transmit from one to the other. Better check a VD specialist ASAP! Also, let the guy know he gave you the warts so he doesn’t pass them on to anyone else. And next time, be sure to use protection as there are a lot more nasty things you can catch from unprotected sex.

Skin Tags On Neck

Skin tags are non-harmful flaps of skin that protrude from the surrounding body skin and they are considered by dermatologist as small tumors. They normally grow slowly to a specific size of about half an inch and then stop growing. Skin tags are formed when an outer layer of skin begins to overgrow envelops collagen fibers. Although they are painless and cause no harm they are irritating as they mostly appear in areas of rapid friction which include neck, groin and armpit.

Skin tags on neck can be caused by various factors such as obesity, diabetes and use of steroids. However, skin tags do not cause an alarming health concern as they are harmful, non-cancerous and painless growths that occur on the outer skin of the body. Research studies done on skin tags also indicate that rubbing against the skin causing friction is a major cause hence that explains the reason why they are most common in areas of rapid movement such as the armpit.

Skin tags on neck are mostly displeasing as they are very visible and irritating hence the desire of immediate removal from a patient. Skin tags on neck can be removed by various ways including self treatment using home remedies or one may choose to dermatologist or a trained professional for proper removal of skin tags.

In case of a dermatologist or a trained professional various methods such as cryotherapy, electrocautery, laser skin tag treatment and surgical ligation may be used to remove skin tag on neck. Self treatment using home remedies can also be applied where one can use simple applicable techniques to remove the skin tags.

Cryotherapy is an effective method to remove skin tags on neck as it kills the cells on the neck skin tag causing them to disintegrate and then fall off. Liquid nitrogen is used in cryotherapy to freeze the cells in the skin tag hence causing the disintegration. It is an effective method as it does not affect the surrounding cells.

Skin tags on neck can be treated by a dermatologist using electrocautery method where an electrolysis machine is equipped with advanced settings that can remove skin tags of all sizes. The skin tags can also be treated using laser skin surgery and also surgical ligation where skin tags are carefully removed in surgical procedures.

Skin tags on neck can also be removed using home remedies where one can either disinfect the cutting tools and remove the skin tag by cutting it or tie a string tightly at the base of the skin fold to remove it.
